This touching story, produced in collaboration with the Dream Farm agency, tells how young Toby, a turkey, narrowly escaped from a truck en route to a slaughterhouse.
The ad shows Toby sitting – and unserved – at the Christmas table, like a treasured member of his new family.
Toby is lucky, unlike the 10 million birds slaughtered each year for Christmas meals in France. Turkeys like Toby’s loving mother will never know what it’s like to enjoy fresh air, sunshine, a satisfying meal or comfort.

Eating turkeys for Christmas dinner is an outdated tradition
While humanity advocates peace and compassion for Christmas, misguided customs spell torment and brutal death for turkeys and other animals. Killing animals contradicts the festive message of love, hope and joy. Peace starts on your plate – by choosing not to eat animals, you spare them unimaginable suffering and you can still enjoy all the classic Christmas dishes you love, but without the cruelty.
Sweet, intelligent and highly social birds like Toby are often tied and hung up by their legs before being dragged through an electrified pool at the slaughterhouse. Some are still conscious when a worker slits their throats. Like any caring mother, Toby’s couldn’t bear the thought of her son’s life ending like this. Even if it meant she would never see him again, she made the heartbreaking choice to push him out of the truck, knowing that any other fate would be better than the one in store for her.
No mother should be torn from her child and slaughtered – especially in the name of Christmas.
Practice what you preach!
In the wild, turkeys are protective parents and spirited explorers who can live up to 10 years, but those killed for consumption are normally slaughtered between 12 and 26 weeks, which means your main course was probably still very young. Human children have a natural empathy for animals and would be horrified and traumatized to learn what is happening to them before they end up on our plates. Do not feed babies to your children. Let’s start a new tradition of peace and compassion this holiday season, and beyond!
