New Year: meeting of leaders and former leaders of the Party and the State
The Secretary General of the Party, Nguyên Phu Trong, met and formulated his Lunar New Year wishes to the leaders, former leaders of the Party, the State, the Fatherland Front on Thursday, January 19. He urged the Party, the people and the military to strengthen unity and redouble their efforts to build the increasingly prosperous country.

This event notably brought together former Secretary General Nông Duc Manh, former President of the Republic Nguyên Xuân Phuc, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, President of the National Assembly (AN), Vuong Dinh Huê, former Presidents of the AN, Nguyên Sinh Hùng and Nguyên Thi Kim Ngân, the permanent member of the secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party, Vo Van Thuong, the president acting of the Vo Thi Anh Xuan Republic.
On behalf of the Party Central Committee, General Secretary Nguyên Phu Trong introduced veterans of the revolution, leaders, former leaders of the Party, the State, the Vietnam Fatherland Front as well as comrades, compatriots , soldiers at home and to compatriots abroad his distinguished greetings, his cordial requests for information and his best wishes.
The country’s significant achievements
The Party leader highlighted the significant and fairly comprehensive achievements in all areas made by the country in 2022, including GDP growth of more than 8% against a target of 6-6.5%, budget revenues up by more than 14%, macroeconomic stability maintained, major balances of the economy ensured, the financial and monetary market essentially stable, the main sectors of the economy recovered, social well-being guaranteed, the life of the population improved.
The work of building and reshaping the Party and the political system, preventing and combating corruption and unhealthy practices continued to gain in intensity with very positive changes and many remarkable and impressive results. Socio-political stability, defense and security have been strengthened, national sovereignty is maintained. The country’s foreign relations and international integration continued to be broadened and deepened. The democratic atmosphere in the Party and society is increasingly promoted.
The resolutions of the 5e and 6e Plenums of the Party Central Committee of the XIIIe warrant have been deployed to the base. Several national conferences for executives have been organized, including the national conference on the results of ten years of work to prevent and fight against corruption and unhealthy practices during the period 2012-2022.
Six resolutions to develop six key regions
In particular, the Political Bureau issued six thematic resolutions on the development of six key regions, creating a synergy of energies, a new position and a new force to continue to move the country forward, in the spirit of “forward to warn, behind to provide protection, the same voices respond to each other, consensus from top to bottom, communion from vertical to horizontal”.

The results achieved over the past year have made an important contribution to the overall achievements of the entire Party, people and army, are the result of great efforts by compatriots and comrades throughout the country under the wise and close guidance of the Party, the active and efficient management of the state, branches, local governments at all levels, testify to the character, intelligence and strength of the Vietnamese grand national unity bloc, said Secretary General Nguyên Phu Trong.
Stating that 2023 is the pivotal year for the implementation of the resolution of the XIIIe National Party Congress and the Five-Year Socio-economic Development Plan 2021-2025, he recommended paying immediate attention to resolving difficulties and obstacles, accelerating production and trade, improvement of the life of the inhabitants, officers and soldiers on mission in the border, maritime and island regions for the defense of the Fatherland, the settlement of the consequences of natural disasters and epidemics, the creation of conditions allowing the people to celebrate the New Lunar year in joy and peace.
The Party leader wished that the people’s revolutionary work will achieve many new and greater victories, greater successes for the year 2023, that the Party and the political system will be more and more mature, healthy and powerful on all plans, the country will be more and more prosperous, the people will be more and more wealthy, joy and happiness will reign in all families and people’s hearts.
